It is my hope that you will find this activity book entertaining, instructionally sound, and above all…USEFUL.
Please note that this book is not intended as detailed reference guide to all facts anatomical and health related. You can find easily that information in your health textbook. Rather, these pages are specifically designed to give students hands‐on involvement in the learning process.
Each chapter begins with a Topic Page that contains a few important Vocabulary words and, more importantly, a series of Discussion Starters. These are questions designed to engage your students in creative thought and exploration concerning the topic at hand. This section is the equivalent of a warm‐up in an exercise class.
The Topic Page also contains a short Poem and a number of Amazing Facts. I suggest you copy these onto the blackboard in order to inspire more discussion and student interest. You might also invite students to create their own poems and collect their own amazing facts.
Finally, on the Topic Page there is a short section called Slim Says in which I offer a little healthy advice. It might be a nice idea to have your students create their own “Sarah Says,” or “Charlie Says” advice column to help create some positive peer pressure.
Once you’ve sparked student interest, you can move on to the Activity Sheets. Feel free to copy and distribute these to your students. (However, I ask that you please keep the distribution limited to your classroom.)
My National Bodyology Tour appeals to many ages and many kinds of student learners. This Activity Book follows suit. Some hand‐outs are more appropriate for younger learners, others are designed for older students. Some require lots of left brain activity, others make nice use of the creative right brain. I hope your students find the activities interesting and engaging. Please contact me with any questions and concerns.
Have fun and be well,
