1. Johnny Appleseed
The show opens with Cora, Red and Mac (all animated apples) waiting to hear a story from Granny Smith. When she arrives, they ask to hear the story of their hero - Johnny Appleseed. As the tale unfolds, we learn where and how Johnny traveled and discover some of the reasons apples were so important to settlers. The program features animation, dramatic re-creations, maps, and music.
2. Harriet Tubman
Two children are in a playground where they discover a "magic penny". The character in the coin (Abraham Lincoln) comes alive and talks to the children about life in his time. This leads to a discussion about slavery. The children find out how hard life was for the slaves and how Harriet Tubman helped over 300 escape to freedom on the Underground Railroad. The program features animation, historical photos, pen and ink drawings, and more.
